Participants in Tri-Cities Lapidary Society field trips must complete the appropriate waiver or risk acknowledgement for each outing before taking part.
Rockhounding can involve uneven or unstable ground, loose rock, steep slopes, tools, changing weather, vehicle travel, remote locations and other hazards that vary from site to site. Because every field trip has a different safety profile, a new waiver or risk acknowledgement is required for each trip.
Waiver Requirements
- Participants aged 19 and older must complete the Adult Field Trip Waiver.
- Participants under 19 must have a Risk Acknowledgement signed by a parent or adult sponsoring member.
- A new form is required for every field trip.
- The completed form must be presented to the Wagonmaster at the field trip rendezvous point before the outing begins.
Adult Field Trip Waiver
Participants who are 19 years of age or older must complete the Adult Field Trip Waiver for each Society field trip they attend.
The waiver applies specifically to that outing and acknowledges the risks associated with participating in outdoor rockhounding and related field activities.
Participants Under 19
Participants under 19 years of age must have a completed Risk Acknowledgement signed by a parent or adult sponsoring member for each field trip.
The parent or sponsoring adult should review the risks associated with the particular outing and ensure the junior participant is properly prepared and supervised.
Prepare Your Form Before the Trip
Participants are strongly encouraged to download, print, read and sign the appropriate form before leaving for the field trip.
Taking a few minutes to review the waiver in advance gives participants time to understand the risks, ask questions and make sure they are properly prepared for the conditions expected at the site.
Why a New Waiver for Every Trip?
Field trip conditions can vary considerably. One outing may involve an easy roadside collecting site, while another may include rough terrain, steep slopes, creek crossings, active quarry conditions, remote travel or other site-specific hazards.
Requiring a new waiver or risk acknowledgement for every field trip helps ensure that participants consider the risks associated with the particular outing they are attending rather than relying on a general annual form.
Follow the Wagonmaster's Directions
The Wagonmaster or designated field trip leader is responsible for coordinating the outing and communicating site-specific instructions. Participants must follow all directions concerning access, safety, collecting areas, vehicle movement, property boundaries and conduct at the site.
Questions Before a Trip?
