About the Show

The 37th annual Rock and Gem Show and Sale, Supernatural Stones - The Natural but Unusual Properties of Stones, took place October 24 and 25, 2015 at Kyle Centre in Port Moody.

The show explored some of the remarkable properties and appearances found in the mineral world. Special guest exhibitor Jennifer Moore of Glowhounds presented an award-winning fluorescent mineral display, while club exhibits examined unusual colour in obsidian, light effects and optical properties, distinctive petrified wood, stone carving and other natural phenomena.

The central club display featured rough and polished rocks demonstrating light effects, while a collection of free-form obsidian stones was also well received. Interactive displays, demonstrations and family activities encouraged visitors to explore both the scientific and creative sides of rocks, minerals and lapidary.

The weekend also marked an important moment in club history when longtime member Geoff Cameron was presented with Honourary Life Membership by Club President Lynne Johnston and Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay in recognition of his contributions to the Port Moody Rock and Gem Club.

From the Archives:

Contemporary club records indicate that approximately 1,300 visitors attended the 2015 show, about 200 more than the previous record, making it the club's best-attended show to that point.
