About the Show
The 41st annual Rock and Gem Show and Sale, Petrified 2 - Another Look at Fossils & Mud Jaspers, took place October 26 and 27, 2019 at Kyle Centre in Port Moody.
The theme revisited two memorable earlier shows: 2009's Petrified! and 2014's Marvellous Mud. Fossils, sedimentary jaspers and other evidence of ancient environments were brought together again with new exhibits, special guests and hands-on educational activities.
Fossils were a major focus throughout the room. The Vancouver Paleontological Society participated in the show, a replica dinosaur skeleton provided a dramatic centrepiece, and fossil preparer Rod Bartlett demonstrated the careful work involved in cleaning and preparing fossil material.
Other exhibits ranged from British Columbia fossils and fossil fish to richly patterned Biggs and Deschutes jaspers, reinforcing the show's connection between ancient life, sedimentary geology and lapidary material.
Petrified 2 became the final annual show held before the COVID-19 interruption. No shows were held in 2020, 2021 or 2022. The annual tradition returned in 2023 and was followed by three revival-era shows: Everything Rocks! in 2023, Let's Rock Again! in 2024 and We Will Rock You in 2025.
