Our 2026 Show
May the Quartz Be With You!
Join us for a weekend of rocks, fossils, minerals, jewellery, lapidary, displays, demonstrations and family activities as we celebrate one final show at Kyle Centre.
With a playful cosmic theme and nearly five decades of show history behind it, May the Quartz Be With You! will be both a celebration of the hobby and a farewell to the building that has hosted generations of local rockhounds.
A Long-Running Tri-Cities Tradition
Our annual rock and gem show is where the hobby opens its doors to the whole community. For decades, the show has been known for its energetic atmosphere, creative themes, quality displays and warm, welcoming character.
Collectors, lapidary artists, families, curious newcomers and experienced rockhounds come together for a weekend devoted to rocks, minerals, fossils and the many things that can be created from stone.
The local show tradition reaches back to 1979, and over the years thousands of visitors have come through the doors to explore displays, meet dealers and artisans, watch demonstrations, take part in hands-on activities and discover something new about the earth beneath our feet.
More Than a Sales Event
Our show has never been intended simply as a marketplace. Its purpose is also to share the lapidary arts, mineral collecting, geology and earth science with the broader public in an approachable and memorable way.
We work hard to create a show that appeals both to serious collectors and to people who may simply be wondering why that unusual rock, glowing mineral or polished stone is so interesting.
Dealers, Artisans & Supplies
Well-respected lapidary dealers, artisans and craftspeople offer finished jewellery, mineral specimens, fossils, rough rock, slabs, tools, equipment and other lapidary supplies.
Displays Worth Exploring
Member, educational and guest displays showcase minerals, fossils, lapidary work, geological stories and special collections in ways designed to encourage questions and discovery.
Demonstrations & Interaction
Demonstrations, interactive tables and informal conversations give visitors an opportunity to see how lapidary work is done, handle selected specimens and talk directly with knowledgeable members.
Fun for Families
Rock hunts, gem panning, games, auctions and other activities have helped make the show an exciting place for children and families as well as collectors and hobbyists.
A Show With a Theme
One of the hallmarks of our show has been the use of a unique central theme each year. Rather than simply filling a room with tables, we build displays, activities and educational content around an idea that helps tell a story.
The results have ranged from playful to educational, sometimes both at once.
Marvellous Mud
A show built around fossils and mud-formed jaspers, including Burgess Shale fossil casts contributed by the Royal Ontario Museum.
Supernatural Stones
A celebration of the unusual but entirely natural properties of stone, including fluorescent minerals and other visually surprising material.
Seeking Sulphur
An exploration of sulphur and sulphide minerals, with contributions connecting mineral specimens to industry and British Columbia's resource history.
150 Rocks
A major Canada 150 project featuring 150 rocks, minerals and fossils from across the country, supported by museums, institutions and collectors.
Everything Rocks!
A broad introduction to lapidary, minerals, geology and the many different ways people become involved with the hobby.
We Will Rock You
Another energetic chapter in the Society's long tradition of making each year's show feel distinct and memorable.
The End of an Era at Kyle Centre
Kyle Centre has been home to our annual rock and gem show since 1978 and has been an important part of the local lapidary community for nearly five decades.
With the building slated for demolition, the 2026 show is expected to be our final installment at Kyle Centre.
While the location may change, the spirit of the show will continue: creative themes, memorable displays, quality dealers, demonstrations, conversation, learning and a room full of people who simply enjoy rocks.
